Hello !

Well shame on me: I am back from my long trip and haven't gone back to Zafehouse moding... yet.
But I have had a lot of fun putting together a simulation of a city infection. It could be a source of inspiration!
It is a spreasheet (made with open office, but there is an excel version too). Survivors search food, steal, fight with zombies, build barricades, try to escape the town...

Hello ! That's while that I posted the link, but I have just noticed that the file was somewhat corrupted (most calculation were sending an error message). This one should be ok...

I have also take some pictures. Who knows, it could be source of inspiration for Zafehouse 2.5 ?

This is how the infection went in 15 days and 4 months. The outbreak really took 8 days to declare, with the maximum number of zombies after 15.
Some of the guys managed to escape town, but autorities closed it has soon noticed infected leaving town.

Here are some of the results displayed in a table. You see that the maximum number of zombies was 132, over an original population of 1000 people. At maximum, zombies were 57% of the total population.
Also most people have been brutally killed by zombies, and only 2 starved to death.

Some more details on the way people died, depending on the time spent since the beginning of the outbreak.

Here are some of the parameters that you can change. For example priorities are the priorities that survivors will give to different activities depending on their environement (hunger, number of attack per day, quantity of dead bodies lying around,...)

This is what your survivors are doing.

This was a lot of fun to do ! Probably more than fiddling with the parameters. But I really feel that it could be some source of good inspiration !

Hey flap,

This is great stuff. I'm actually working on zombie growth rates and attack chances right now, so this has acted as inspiration.

You've probably seen the new-look Zafehouse 2, but if not...

Yes, I had seen that. And I really like the look of it (but I am quiet a fan of interactive fiction, so am naturally biased toward that kind of thing).
A lot of the fun of the final product will depend on the juicy flavour text that you'll manage to add.

There is another concept that I haven't included in that version of the simulation yet : knowledge.
People can spend time to accumulate knowledge (of the area). It slowly degrades over time, and a lot when people are killed.
High knowledge gives higher finding rate for food, allows to avoid zombies when unarmed, of finding them for those hunting them down.
Knowledge loss and gain also depends on the communication network still in place, or that survivors have managed to build. (radio, discussion, phone, TV and newspaper befor breaktrhough, paintings on the walls,... anything that you can imagine)
